It might be a sign of the credit crunch but we currently have several million pizza boxes in our warehouse. A neighbouring company which folds and glues the boxes is making the most of our flexible warehousing solutions to store the boxes until they are needed for production.

Despite the fact that the economy is slowing we have taken on an extra 7.5 tonne truck to cope with demand. This brings our rapid-response 7.5 tonne fleet to 9 trucks, all dedicated to sameday work. We have curtain-sided and box vans both with and without tail-lifts.

Case study 1:
The Recruitment Agency

One of the UK's largest and most prestigious recruitment agencies has a head office in Chesterfield and over 70 offices across the country. To support sales staff in the field, the company supplies incentive gifts such as pens, rulers, mugs etc. In the past, the goods had been delivered to head office where office personnel picked and packed them. Distribution took place via regional managers coming up to the East Midlands, loading their cars and then passing the goods onwards to sales staff who delivered them to the offices.

Not only was it extremely impractical to receive and store palletised goods in their plush offices but it was also time-consuming for staff for whom picking and packing was a distraction from their core duties. Utilising sales managers and representatives to deliver the goods was also a non-productive (and therefore expensive) use of their time.

When the company approached us we were able to offer an extremely cost-effective solution. By handing the management of the project over to Anglia, they were able to concentrate on running their business and we were able to co-ordinate the whole operation; from the inward movement of stock to the re-packing and despatch of the complete orders.

Our client supplied both stock order and distribution details. The various promotional items were sent directly from the manufacturers to our warehouse where they were checked for both quantity and quality. The orders for each office were collated and the goods repacked for despatch. Cost to our client was minimised through quick turnaround of stock, competitive storage and distribution rates and the man-hours saved by out-sourcing the project to us.

Case study 2
The Pharmaceuticals Company

A global pharmaceuticals company needed to outsource the stockholding and distribution of its promotional literature and 'giveaways' such as pens and mugs etc. With 150 lines of literature and 30 'giveaways' sufficient space was required to allow for display, picking and distribution of all the items to conferences, exhibitions and field sales teams in the UK, Europe and worldwide.

Orders placed on the company website by sales engineers go directly to our warehouse for picking and despatch. Control of out-going stock is done automatically when orders are placed and incoming stock movements are updated manually.

We were able to offer sufficient shelving space for the storage and display of each of the one hundred and eighty lines together with a comprehensive pick and pack service. Reverse logistics is an important element of the package; surplus material has to be uplifted from exhibition centres, often during a very short time window, and returned to our warehouse. It is then quality-checked, counted and returned to stock.

Costs are minimised by using overnight carriers for all deliveries but occasionally the flexibility of our sameday courier service is required for time-constrained collections.

Case Study 3
The Printer

A local print company required storage, pick, pack and distribution facilities for approximately 250 pallets. The stock is stationery for financial organisations and car dealerships across the UK and is called off in both bulk and small consignments for next day delivery.

We were able to offer the company sufficient storage space and flexible pick and pack arrangements that ensure orders can be placed up to 14.00 hrs for despatch that same day.

Working closely with our client we have developed stock control and location systems that make our operation very visible to them and we provide daily inventory reports. Out-sourcing this element of their operation to Anglia has freed up both space and manpower that they can put to more profitable use.
